Have you heard about IV sedation in dentistry, but aren’t really sure what it is? Well, we’d be happy to provide more information…
IV sedation, which is also referred to as general anesthesia, is the deepest form of sedation in dentistry. We administer it through an IV that’s attached to your arm. While you’re receiving the sedation, you’ll be completely unconscious. During your entire dental procedure, we’ll be monitoring your vital signs.
Ours are some of the few offices in the Mesa area to offer IV sedation, and it can be helpful for:
- wisdom teeth extractions
- complex procedures, such as dental implants
- people who have a fear of the dentist
- people who have a physical disability that makes dental appointments challenging
- people with a strong gag reflex
- people who want to get a large block of dental treatment finished in a single dental visit
- people who have an adverse reaction to Novocain
The effects of IV sedation can linger in your body for hours after your procedure, affecting your concentration and coordination. Because of this, if you receive IV sedation, you’ll need to have someone drive you home after your dental appointment.
In addition to IV sedation, our dental office also offers oral sedation and laughing gas.
At our dental office, we accept most types of dental insurance, and we’re in network, as preferred providers for: Humana, Aetna, Delta Dental, Guardian, Cigna, United Concordia, United Healthcare, and Metlife.
